The first major milestone has been reached!

For approximately 200,000 articles, which are manufactured at seven production sites worldwide, the master data must be correctly recorded, highly available and traceable in all systems. Today, all companies are struggling with masses of data. The issue of master data management is particularly critical for those who are legally and for liability reasons obliged to ensure complete transparency and traceability. Automotive suppliers and manufacturers of electronic products are at the forefront of this league.

Previously, data was entered to the best of one's knowledge without binding rules or specifications. If the fields in the SAP master data world are not filled in correctly, the process is simply blocked afterwards. "Clean master data was and is our biggest task. The only question that was just as big was how we should get to grips with it," explains Nicole Niegelhell, Digitalization Manager & Master Data Governor at Hirschmann Automotive. Behind highly complex products at Hirschmann Automotive are, firstly, various production steps and, secondly, approval processes with customers before a final release is made. "All of this is urgently required, because if a plug connection of a wiring harness in a car burns out, it must be possible to completely trace where the product came from, also in order to initiate a return action," explains the SAP master data expert.

SAP Master Data Governance (MDG) was introduced in Rankweil in just six months. Without any major problems, around 2,000 materials were created with SAP MDG in the pilot project.
