Hirschmann Automotive expands its plant in Romania.

At the end of March 2022, the automotive supplier opened a new production hall in Sânpaul, Romania, near Târgu Mureş. More than 2,100 employees are now employed here at two sites.

Detailed planning started at the end of 2019. In less than a year - from June 2021 to March 2022 - the new building has been constructed.

"This investment is a big step in the development of the automotive sector. Hirschmann Automotive is a major player in the automotive market with nine factories in seven locations worldwide. The production site in Romania was established 15 years ago and has been expanded five times ever since. Currently, around 30% of the production volume comes from Târgu Mureş. We have found qualified personnel, we enjoy the support of the authorities and I am convinced that together we will achieve great things," said Markus Ganahl (COO) at the inauguration of the new production hall.

The total investment of 28 million EUR, of which 12 million EUR from state funds and 16 million EUR from own funds, has led to the creation of 300 new jobs and enabled the company to expand its production capacity. The new building has an area of 9,100m2, 40% of which is used for production and 60% for storage. The company has invested significantly in the automation of the logistics warehouse, which has a storage capacity of 34,000 cartons and the possibility for expansion of aas much as 45,000 cartons at any time if necessary. Up to 8,100 pallets can be stored in the manual storage area.

"It is the largest production hall we have opened in recent years. We have invested in the building, but also in the equipment to develop more products for the future," says Stefan Tschol (CFO).
