Hardly any other idea has gripped the manufacturing industry or led to such intense discussion in the last several years as much as Industry 4.0. The last comparable revolutionary development was the concept of lean production introduced nearly 30 years ago in the western world. Hirschmann Automotive has risen to the digitalization challenge.
Implementing adequate Industry 4.0 solutions is a considerable task for many companies. New digital technology is developing at a staggering pace and continues to proliferate nonstop. The resulting solutions are innovative and often extremely complex. At the same time, there are still too few experts specializing in digitalization. At Hirschmann Automotive, however, the digitalization process is in full swing and reinforced by a multifaceted concept and strong team.
Tackling Digitalization as a Team
Flat hierarchies and the introduction of corresponding organizational framework conditions facilitate the recognition of new possibilities. A multidisciplinary digitalization team was established at Hirschmann Automotive to identify potential for digitalization and automation along the entire value chain as well as in administrative processes. The team consists of digitalization experts, business process managers and project managers.
Potential Yields Projects
Identified potential is prioritized based on its utility to both the company and most importantly the fulfillment of customer requirements. Projects are helmed by digitalization managers and executed in a resource-optimized and goal-oriented manner using dynamic project management methods. The outcomes are then implemented into processes. Lastly, the digitalization team oversees the digital transformation at Hirschmann Automotive in close cooperation with the Executive Board and all other departments.
Smart Factory – Digitalized from the Beginning
Process automation is becoming more and more relevant to us. In our latest plant expansion in the Czech town of Vsetín, we plan to completely digitalize production from day one. We will also implement a highly innovative, fully automatic logistic transportation and storage system with autonomous robots. The benefits are plain to see: shorter processing times create more flexibility, the use of space in production is improved, and manual processes are reduced. The factory has more than earned its designation as smart.
