Training apprentices is of strategic importance for Hirschmann Automotive. Not only is this a long-standing tradition, but also critical for the success of our company. I am firmly convinced of this.
There are many companies in Vorarlberg who are vying for the best and most motivated apprentices, because the prevalent lack of expertise in our region cannot be countered without dual, practically-oriented training. We are therefore strongly called upon to offer a professional training programme in our modern training workshop, rounded off with various “goodies” and framework programmes.
The central foundations of training at Hirschmann Automotive are that we take our young people seriously, deal with them openly and responsibly, quickly integrate them into the operational work processes and accompany them through educational and practical training. If there are, for example, private problems, our trainers support their apprentices and often take on mentoring roles. Apprentices should find a professional home at Hirschmann Automotive, where they want to stay or come back to after further education and training.
Compared to the past, the demands on young people have increased: the training opportunities are very extensive and the decision between continuing education and dual training is certainly not an easy one. Young people are very well informed these days via social media and the internet. This transparency further challenges the company providing the training and strengthens the quality of the apprenticeship, in my opinion. In this context, I would like to mention how important initiatives are to promote a good image of the apprenticeship. The Association of the Vorarlberg Electrical and Metal Industry (VEM) is doing very good and supportive work here.
Personally, I can only offer the following piece of advice: good specialists are very much in demand in our region. So for example, a trained toolmaker or plastics engineer need not worry about their further professional life. Once the apprenticeship is completed, all doors are open – from master craftsman certification through to a high school certificate and university studies. In an international company like ours, there is also the opportunity of continuing your career abroad. However, only dual training can intensively impart the practical know how needed. University graduates cannot keep up with the experience of our specialists in this area.
For Hirschmann Automotive it is a pleasure and a daily challenge to mould our “rough diamonds” into highly sought-after specialists. We will keep true to this in future.
